Factory Password

Q. When would the Factory password ever be used?

A. The Factory password can be used...

  •  with a new card, until the user's passwords are entered; or

  •  if the user's passwords were misplaced, to enter new ones.

Q. Can the Factory password ever be changed?

A. No. It is a secure way to access the NCM card if all else fails.

Q. Does the Factory password ever pose a security risk?

A. Not really. A person inside of the Tandem office must push the reset button on the front of the card, and then for only 30 seconds can the Factory password be used.

Q. Can I just use the Factory password instead of defining my own?

A. It wouldn't be practical since someone would have to be at the Tandem office to push the button every time the card was accessed.

Q. After I use the Factory password for the first time should I ever have to use it again?

A. No. As long as the user's passwords are documented, they should always work, even if the card suffers a power loss.

Password Programming

Q. Is there an easy way to know before hand what to expect when defining passwords remotely?

A. Informer will provide one-page menu forms to fill out before entering passwords. Also, voice prompting will guide the user to in following the menu sequence.

Q. If a mistake is made, will the menu sequence repeat the entry options?

A. Yes. The menu options will repeat until the * key is pressed.

Operation    (See also Flow diagram [86k]   Download PDF Documents )

Q. Is there a time out when accessing the NCM card?

A. Yes. If 10 minutes pass while accessing the card, it will hang-up and must be called again.

Q. How do I transfer dedicated trunk groups (wireline, wireless) independently?

A. After approving the dial back password and relay password, the NCM card will voice prompt the user for activation/deactivation of relays 1 and 2. Relays 1 and 2 are connected to independent scan points at the tandem office.

Q. Are the voice prompts user defined or fixed? If fixed what are some examples?

A. They are fixed. Here is an example:
