The Headset Box resides at the PSAP call taker's station and due to its small size is mountable underneath the desktop on either side of the call taker's chair. It connects directly to the radio console and to the phone system through the Informer TDD Modem.

When the telephone at the call taker's station is on-hook, radio traffic is sent to the headset ear-piece and the headset microphone is activated for radio conversation. When the telephone goes off-hook, the headset will automatically switch the radio audio to the radio console speaker and activate the headset ear-piece and microphone for telephone conversation. When the call taker needs to talk through the radio, the push to talk feature will switch the headset microphone from telephone conversation to radio conversation.
